Prepping The Tree

Over my 28 years I have worked with a number of tree manufacturers. To produce a consistent saddle we need a consistent saddle tree. Bowden has proven to be the most consistent of them all. They make it easy for an experienced saddle maker to produce a high quality saddle every time.

No matter how good the tree manufacturer, there are always some bumps that have to be taken care of. I go over each tree carefully to make sure everything is smooth and ready for applying leather. When I am done, I give the worked areas of the tree a coat of outdoor varithane to reseal the rawhide.
